Guitar/bass hybrid.

A guitar-based instrument that expands the tonal range of a guitarist to the bass register.

A guitar-based instrument that expands the tonal range of a guitarist to the bass register by replacing the top two strings with bass strings tuned an octave lower. The neck is lengthened to add the necessary tension but is tuned like a guitar, allowing a guitarist to adapt easily, especially when playing classical style.

User needs

I chose traditional finish and materials to meet the tastes of most guitarists, but considering ergonomics led to an original body style that is contoured to be played comfortably against the body.

Manufacturing

The luthier and I experimented to find the right combination of playability and strength. Dual truss rods keep the varying tension between the bass and the guitar sides from warping the neck.
